It might turn out that ole man Smithers was behind the whole evolution thing from the start.

I can't believe this happened in this day and age.

I hate to see generalizations like "Japanese are more technically savvy as a whole", but this one is just off the mark.

Some people in Japan buy more gadgets, but they generally don't know how to work them any better than people in other parts of the world.

Take a look in a Japanese computer store or bookstore, Windows and _Mac_ still dominate by a long shot. Linux is pretty huge only in the academic, ISP, and ex-pat communities.

We have a two NT systems with a 85GB and 150GB filesystems and it doesn't appear to suffer from this. The filesystems are pretty close to full. The systems don't often go down ungracefully, but the filesystems come back up fine when they do.

I still hate NT, but I haven't found any NT OS problems with huge filesystems. Backups and checkdisks and defrags, that's another matter.

I'm glad I'm not the only person thinking like this.

In the near future, the compressed audio battle will nothing but a memory and we'll be talking about compressed video.

Like everybody else, I'm a consumer of video and audio. I believe in the right of artists to be paid for their work. I pay my share every time I purchase a CD or DVD. All I want for my money is high quality digital sound or video that I'm free to manipulate and play back on the equipment of my choice. Why doesn't the music and video industries cater to my needs? A lot of people who are like me are the best customers of these industries!

I think you have underestimated the MP3 using population around the world. It's a lot bigger than just the techies. The people with the know how always help the clueless. It has been, it is, and it shall always be that way...

This reminds me of another stupid technical blunder. Can anybody say DIVX?
