  1. is it just me? on Should Job Seekers Tell Employers To Quit Snooping? · · Score: 1

Why does it seem like I am the only one who hasn't been suckered into "the fingernet". It was ten years ago my father and I would talk about the dangers of the transparent software connections of the future. Precisely why I could never imagine divulging any information about myself except on my own business website.

Why does anyone think you can stop a human from searching online and judging you. Sorry to be the bearer of truth and bad news but if you got suckered into wasting your time divulging yourself on "the fingernet" then don't be surprised if people don't like you and don't take the time to understand you. This is human nature, not a side-effect of the fingernet, you have to overcome human nature to be "further" than others and I rarely see it anymore.

I never post anywhere, but I had to post this, it just crawled right out of me. The new world is here and I'm still living the state-of-mind of the 90's and loving it and you can do it too.

If you would only say/do it with close friends then don't disclose it on the internet, who cares who you think your friends are many, many miles away. This is YOUR life we're talking about.

  2. Wii mote + PS3 on The Wii - Is the Magic Gone? · · Score: 1

I just bought a PS3 today. I'm so happy I decided to post on slashdot for the first time :)

In my opinion the only good part of the Wii is the Wii remote, which I plan on coupling with the PS3 in every way that I can. It can also be used on a PC. Why buy the Wii?

Instead of "Wee" it should be called "Why".

  3. Actually! DSL is faster than average Cable speeds on Cable Beats DSL For Average Speed · · Score: 1

Actually! DSL is faster than average Cable speeds.
If you live in Canada! As I've heard this to be true in the U.S with those cheap phone networks :)

In Canada I'm sitting on a 3mbit residential DSL line. Consistent, reliable bandwidth rate of 376 Kbytesps.

That's right, download 1 megabyte in just under 3 seconds. 50 megs in 2 mins.

I must mention I was a cable believer before trying DSL. A misserable support and bandwidth service from the local Rogers Cable provider.

Also important to note this is an 18 story apartment building. Copper wire is much more reliable than cable anything :) Even 1mbit DSL is 124 Kbytesps, consistent, ALWAYS.

Most domains achieve these speeds, amazing how fast the internet really is nowadays.

So I completely disagree with the article =)

  4. KDE or Gnome? on Linux and Public Access Computing? · · Score: 1

Being a Community Technology Center and these being public systems I would choose KDE.

The user interface will be much easier for public users than Gnome. I liked Gnome for years and then tried KDE3. Haven't gone back since.

I find KDE3 as a whole deffinitely has an edge to Gnome.

You can always install BOTH KDE and GNOME, run KDE as the desktop interface and still have the ability to run Gnome apps. Nothing lost in this scenario. Disk space has never been cheaper.

GNU/Linux is so wonderful it's disgusting.

  5. Best Anime (must see Macross Plus) on Essential Anime · · Score: 1

Macross Plus is the best anime movie I've ever seen and I've seen Ninja Scroll.

I have the VHS 4 part series...here's the description from the back of the first tape.

"In 2040 AD on the colonial planet Eden, the Ministry of Defense is testing and developing a transforming aircraft, a new advanced defense to counter alien attacks.

Isamu Dyson is an extrovert jet fighter maverick assigned as a new test pilot on project Super Nova. Competition heats up when he discovers that his old rival Guld is test pilot for the competing project. The arrival of Myung, a mutual ex-girlfriend, adds more tension to the conflict.

From the director of the legendary TV series "Macross" (known as Robotech in the U.S) this action packed, visually superb 4-part series is the Top Gun of Japanese animation with authentic mecha designs."

Make sure you see this movie. There are other Macross movies out there so try not to get them confused with this one. This movie amazes me everytime I watch it.
