Here, here! People complain a lot, but they never do anything about it. That's a lot of wasted breath if you're not going to put your money where your mouth is.
Sadly, I'm a student as well... but I won't let that stop me : )
InstallAnywhere is a difficult initial setup, but after the first one, it's pretty easy to just copy/paste the first configuration files into a new project and make a new application. You can bundle all the applications together into one install, so you can install more than one application at one time.
The tool that actually does this conversion is called, not surprisingly, HTMLConverter. It can be gotten from Sun's page .
It turns out that a lot of the actual library space is shared between VM's, so while the initial memory requirement is pretty steep, every additional VM is not much more expensive. If you turn on native threads under linux and do a 'top', it will appear as though there are at least 4 java programs running that are using 8M a piece, but they are actually using a lot of the same space.

It seems like this has to do with the amount of pressure placed on an individual at work. I am in the same position as you, and I have a very low-key job. People here rarely put in more than 50 hours a week and most people seem to do exactly 40. I intensely like what I do for a living, but management "protects" me from the stressors of customers and SAM. My guess is that you're in a similar situation, with enlightened management who has learned that employees who aren't stressed out usually are more productive.
Two things here. One, the colloquial definition of 'geek' doesn't only apply to computer geeks... there are a lot of other types out there (or maybe those are nerds), and this article tends, and apparently a lot of computer geeks tend to ignore that fact. The second thing is that I have spent a lot of time with non-geek women, and have found that I just don't enjoy spending time with them. Few of them have any sort of passion in their lives and seem to just be existing rather than actually caring about something interesting. She may be a drama geek or a chemical engineering geek, but in either case, they at least have some passion in their lives. That's what makes us all geeks at heart: the fact that we all love the stuff that we do. And I'm not looking for Cindy Crawford with an IQ of 180, but I am looking for a girl with similar intelligence as me who's willing to use it for something she loves. It's not a bad thing to look for a girl who's a geek. I can't imagine being able to share anything at all interesting to me to any girl who wasn't a geek. They're the only ones who listen and understand why I'm so excited about . Anyway... I think this article does offer a lot of good tips for how to actually get out and talk to a girl, though. Sometimes you gotta get out of the (lab)|(room)|(office) and go meet someone. If you don't meet someone who has a bit of geek in them, though, I'll bet you won't be happy, though. Adam
One thing this could do is force people to start using encryption more. Maybe the gov't has access to your network traffic, but if they can't read it, then who cares? It is probably an infringement of civil liberties, but if they were to get it in place, the net result would probably be a more secure Internet, or at least the part that resides in the US. Adam

Hope this helps a little
