I fail to see how installing a new, blank hard drive makes you vulnerable to computer viruses. I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to come up with a scenario where a virus infection occurs from installing hardware that requires no software to run as it is all in the BIOS. I can't think of a single case where something like that would occur.
