  1. Electoral College on Florida Election Votes Certified · · Score: 1
However, the fact that you say that shows that you believe that the Electoral College is still important than the voice of the people.

The people have spoken nationwide, and it has been in favor of Gore.

The only honorable thing for Bush to do is politely step down and awknowledge what the people want.

Either way, I've got mine in writing.

Telnet can, in fact, be replaced with ssh. More than that, I think it should and must be replaced with ssh.

I can hear it already..."But I can't get at my shell using SSH from my Windows box." You shouldn't have said that. Just go get some window putty. Put it in c:\windows\ for best results. It does raw connections and ssh connections, along with telnet connections. And it does it better than that piece of shit telnet client that comes with Windows.

OK, now the irony in this is the Republicans badgered our Secratary of State here in Oregon, threatening a recount in Oregon.

It didn't happen, yet, thankfully. Although some random can still throw Oregon into a recount by filing the right papers and paying $8,000 by Dec 12.

You say this all now, but this is an important issue to me. My father is abusive and doesn't pay child support. Support orders are damn near unenforcable over state lines.

Personally, I'm quite happy that my folks got divorced, my father really never acted like it. I am not speaking by my mother's influence here, this is a real problem. Child support collection my father's five-figure debt accrued over the last decade will mean the difference between whether or not I will be able to complete my CIS degree or not.

I'm quite amazed how little consideration for the kids you apparently have here. Are you an interstate deadbeat?

  13. Voting in Oregon on Should You Vote? · · Score: 1

Of course, if you live in Oregon, you can stay home and vote at the same time. All elections are vote by mail. When you do business at the DMV, they're required by law to ask if you'd like to register to vote. Ballots are mailed out today in Oregon, expect yours by Monday.

You really have to make a dedicated effort to *not* vote in Oregon. There's no excuse for giving your government your opinion, if only to piss off Sizemore and Mabon.

  15. Hints about Ni-Cd batteries on How Should I Treat My Notebook Battery? · · Score: 1
I often hear people saying that its best to drain Ni-Cd's completely before recharging or they'll develop problem areas. To me, this indicates that they have the wrong charger. They're using a charger meant for Nickel Metal Hydride or other cheaper charger.

Ni-Cds require digital chargers to charge properly. With one, you really don't have to think about draining them, just slap them in there overnight and you're good to go.

I have been using the same Ni-Cd laptop battery with very little change in lifespan since 1994 because I use the right charger.

Often times the manufacturer will give you a shitty charger that doesn't charge Ni-Cds properly. Its best to go get a third-party charger, from my experiance.

This also applies to other kinds of rechargable Ni-Cd batteries.

Cars? Those are cheap enough for everybody? I don't think so. After insurance, licencing, gas and maintenance, cars, for many people, are a financial burden greater than housing.

I can afford to drive a car, but I really prefer having money to do other things. I don't see a need to drive to work and work to drive.

Geek can be a compliment, but nerd is immediately an insult. Usage of geek is similar to nigger. Only people who it applies to can call someone one. Geeks can call other people geeks without problem, but someone who's not a geek calls someone a geek, its an insult.
