I doubt that Microsoft will do much of anything for those early adopters, but check with your place of purchase. Frequently they have a price guarantee that will cover price adjustments both at that store and with competitors.
I know that you didn't ask about which service to choose, but given their age perhaps the long library of older TV shows offered by Hulu might be a better choice. They've got many shows from the 50's that might appeal to them more.
As a long time linux user, I find it perfectly okay for someone to like a Windows product, and say so in public, without fearing that Microsoft is paying shills to post.
So then I guess we should be looking into ways to prevent government agencies from using this against us. They've already proven to be completely incapable of trustworthiness.
