Actually I agree with you, I found 'Neverness' to be more satisfying than 'The Broken God' which as you say dragged in places and relied heavily on mass religious fervour which I could not relate to. But, again like you, I will be keeping an eye open for the next in the series to see if it does pick up again.

Iain M Banks - Author of 'Consider Phlebas' 'The Player of Games' 'Excession' and 'Against a Dark Background' amongst others. Intellegent SF, written for adults. Oh yeah, and he does great mainstream novels as Iain Banks, try 'The Crow Road' or 'Complicity'.
And of course it was Tom Sawyer who persuaded people to paint his fence, not Huck Finn. (I was an English Lit major in a previous incarnation, so sue me.)
