Went to the prefs screen, set it back to Threaded from Nested, and the mini-prefs panel is back again.
Another bug... when posting a reply, the 'preview' button doesn't work anymore. Instead of displaying a preview of my reply, it displays a copy of the article I am replying to.
In the last few days,/. is starting to remind me of how it was a year ago. With articles sorted by score, I can actually pull out a few good responses from the hundreds of not so good ones.
A suggestion I have: put the score of the follow-ups next to their links in the threaded mode. That way it's easier to tell if there is a decent follow-up to an article.
The biggest problem I see right now is that sorting by score only sorts on the top article in a thread. There could be a +5 response to a 0 article, but I won't see it if my threshold is set to +1, and I view things threaded. Perhaps a 0 article with a +5 follow-up could be given a higher priority than a 0 article with no follow-ups? Maybe show all of the +5 articles first, then the ones with +5 follow-ups, then the +4 articles, etc?
Sure, T1 bandwidth into your house might hold you over for a year or so, but really, a T1 is woefully inadequate. I've considered OC-3 an 'into the home' technology for years now. It's just too bad that it would cost so much to run fibre to every home.
But once we all get fibre run into our houses, the upgrade path will be sweet. Maybe in 10 years, we'll all have WDM links right into the living room.
Work on proper licensing for the old shows!

I love MST3K, but I would rather see them spend some time working out proper licensing agreements with the movie studios for the old episodes than making new episodes. The older episodes are great, but since they never really had permission to broadcast the movies they were mocking, we'll never get to see those unless some work is done with the studios in question.
Being in Canada, MST3K has -never- been broadcast up here unless you happen to own a BUD (Big Ugly Dish) system. The best we get is the occasional copy on VHS at an independant video rental store. Let's see, 10 years worth of shows, and I've seen maybe 15 episodes. Most of those were on 4th-generation VHS copies from a crappy satellite feed.
Well, I seem to have answered my question through the tried-and-true method of fiddling.
I had my preferences set to display only 25 messages. And it seems that since I had posts sorted by score, only the top-25 scored articles would show up on the main comments page. Then when I clicked through to the follow-ups, the top 25 scored articles -for that page only- are displayed.
Setting the number of comments to display higher solved the problem.
Rob, this stuff is great. I sure hope it works out.
I have my threshold set to 0, sorting set to highest scores first, and display set to threaded. On the main comments page, everything at first glance looks OK, with the highest scores at the top of the page.
For example, right now the "Not Happy" thread has a score of 3, so it is at the top. And the threading info shows that there are two follow-ups to that post.
However, when I click on one of those follow-ups, I can see that there are actually nine follow-ups, not two. The two follow-ups that were listed on the main comments page are shown with a score of 2, and the other 7 are shown with a score of 1.
What's going on there? Is this a bug? Like I said, my threshold is set to 0, so the follow-ups with a score of 1 should still be showing up on the main comments page, right?

I just used the mini-prefs to change from Threaded to Nested mode and , the mini-prefs panel vanished. Oops.
