A neural net in a house would be cool!! But...It should try not to be uber-intelligent, but rather just act like a cat or a dog or other household pet. It should seek to be a digital analogue to our familiar pets only living in the silicon world.
Forget the futuristic ideas of supermodel hologram housekeepers--or not if that's your thing. Just realise that Fido knows when you get home everyday and looks for you at the same door--he's sad when you don't show up on time. He can sense your mood and adapt his actions accordingly, yet he still adapts to your schedule changes. A house could be like that. Granted the infrastructure would be a large investment initially--mics, cameras, switches--but the house would grow with you.
If a home was built with this in mind from the start then the actual amount of extra work would be limited as a few extra wires running along with all the others would be easy to do, but you would probably have to do it yourself as most electrical contractors are stupid and arogant and would not listen to how you needed the place wired.
You would layer the net on top of a data base of daily activities for your house( time, temp, visitors, season..) The house would learn to tell when you were busy, late, romantic, and help you out or let you alone if you choose.
