nowadays it is possible to set up your own audio server, for instance using winamp and shoutcast.
this way it is possible to let you listen to music which is on my disk.
the music could very well be on my disk legally,cause i have tons of cd's whith license to share it to you in my own living room.
though, technique is giving us the opportunity to share music all over the world as stated above.
now, you tell me, would you be stealing music if you are logged on at my winamp server, listening to music i have the right to share?.....
then... in near future we could expect a program which keeps databases with online radio servers and the playlists from those servers. the servers might even be remote controlled so you would be able to listen to any music, any time....
what would the riaa say now?, listening to music is okay inside living rooms but you cannot set up a radio server and broadcast copyrighted music which woulb become publicly available...
hmmm,so we would make the radio servers not public.........
riaa again->you can only share to people you know.. ?!..?

at this very moment, services all over the internet are starting to provide your music by downloads.( you yourself are to storage it for later use).
in my perspective,cd-shops will stop to exsist in a few years
the only reason for them to keep being around is that people are collectors.( we have been for about 5000 years and we probably will stay a little longer also)
UMTS and Fiber technology is giving us the bandwidth we need. and soon we will have music on demand(like pay-tv is getting shaped right now)
every wired intrument(from phone to vcd-player)(and after a few years( from sawing machine till refridgiator)) will be able to hook into the internet soon
if i say your coffeemachine in near future will be with mp3-codec you will probably not beleive me.
and if i say right now you can buy clothing with a cellular phone build in you won't probably beleive me too.
please believe me, if i say : much things will change
we have made a tecnology leap. though our social behaviour and our law-system is not ready for it.
