  1. Re:What if an "immortality pill" was invented? on Researchers Find Off Protein For Immune System · · Score: 1

What if this thread were going somewhere? The "What-ifs" are worth very little unless they are relevant; and this pill has little bearing on our current discussion, or any discussion involving any number of sober and sane individuals... Immortality is a dream; we can get closer and closer to it, living longer, making ourselves more impervious to disease, etc. But I truly doubt you can be immortal. Time will come for us all, and you're a fool if you think otherwise. Making a reference to an impossibility in a "what-if" is all meaningless. I say we'll find some other inhabitable planet, and we may need this technology to survive it. I too once believed that overpopulation/thinning of the herd was vital to our survival. I still hold those ideals close by, but living longer will probably only hurt the generations directly following the first implementations, as they may not be prepared to take care of the people they assumed would be long dead. My example here is the baby boomers, making a slow fadeaway, as my sister, and many other people who may have had better jobs, make a mad dash to become a nurse/doctor/caregiver for these large numbers of older folks. The birth rate per person is likely to stay the same, and the humans will take more resources and space... Sorry, woolly mammoths. The komodo dragons are probably next. At least our human lives will be more pleasant, and more fulfilling (we hope). Anyway, I've spoken my dirt.
