From my point of view the fact that SMP is not being used more is what's insane (and not just in games, I think it should be almost everywhere...I'm nuts, though, so take that with a grain of salt). You can make use of cheaper CPU's and get better performance (depending on what you're doing of course, but I hope you see my point). Since PC's are used for so many different tasks at once, why not divide up the work? Even if app developers don't want to worry about threads, if the OS is designed to do the juggling you can experience much of the benefit.
Really? Why would that be? Something to do with the adapters?
I was running dual P2300s on an FX chipset until one cpu died, so I decided to upgrade to a BX board and give the PPGA with converter thing an option. 65$ for each PPGA (300a) about 120$ for adapters, cooling, and shipping (might not have been the best price, but seemed fair (www.computernerd.com)). I plugged the PPGAs into the adapters and booted up to make sure everything worked. It did. I shut down, jumpered the MB to 100mHz, rebooted and have been running dual 300a PPGAs at 450mHz for a couple of weeks now without any problems. CPU temp rarely gets above 30C and is usually 1-2C above the MB temp (although I'm not sure how the cpu temp is being measured, which goes to show that I'm no hardware guy!)
All in all, I couldn't be happier. I guess if I got it done for less maybe... Only thing that would have made it easier would be for someone to come in and do it for me, but that's not as fun.:)
I haven't heard that these two were teased at all. Where do you get that? They were part of a group of kids that apparently didn't 'fit in.' If they reacted by killing in response to teasing and taunting, the blame is purely theirs. No one 'dished out' bullets and bombs on them. Just because someone doesn't like you and shows it doesn't give you the right to take that person's life. I can't believe people are trying to justify murder because these two weren't in the more popular group in that school! I've been on the receiving end of taunts and teasing in school. It was frustrating, and I still hold grudges against some of the people that did it (wish I could grow up when it comes to that), but I don't think that in any way gives me the right or the predisposition to respond with violence, or even with teasing and taunts.
I'd like to know which spoken words can kill. I'm not a fan of guns, but if I can pull the same level of permanent violence off with language, fill me in! I suppose I could find a list of those words on this here internet thing somewhere, huh? Serious response part starts here: In my opinion, the right to bear arms is an archaic amendment that should have been scratched out long ago. Guns don't keep the gov't honest, they give gov't the right to invade and restrict more of our rights (privacy being the biggest one) in the name of safety. At least, that's what I think. I just wish we had the ability to test out a handgun ban for a while, just to see what happens. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever get the chance to see what things would be like without the right to arm bears.
One might argue that if you think it's affectionate it doesn't matter. Can't buy 'em yet anyway, so I'll stick with my coffee maker, which really likes me anyway, and would probably be hurt if I brought home some competition.
Doesn't say News for Suits anywhere on this site. Who gives a rats ass if businesses are shut down or not? If you really want tech news, there are other, more serious, sources you should be visiting. It's the childlike nature of sites like Slashdot and the people that frequent them that make this a fun internet to be a part of, IMHO. All that stuffy, formal-dress, positive-spin, business bullshit is dying out anyway. Screw it. Have fun.
I might be serious, I might not. Check the date. In fact, I think I'm going to extend my April Fools activities for the rest of the year. Just watch!:)
And besides the storage issue, the quality's not all there either. Even with good bitrates, you need to find a really good soundcard (anyone have suggestions) and get your box close to your amp to keep cable lenghts short. Also, I haven't seen any soundcards that will take a high quality interconnect...most of them are those little crappy ones for headphones. MP3's are great for playing music on your computer, but when I want to *listen* to music (really enjoy it), I crank up a cd on the hi-fi. On a related note, does anyone have any links for hi-fi + computer stuff? I'd be interested in finding a high quality soundcard to use as a transport.
The article seems to say that the goal is to be able to use the mouse while typing. I want to know why? I can't think of any application where it would be beneficial to type (note: that doesn't mean use the keyboard, it means type) and use the mouse simultaneously. For things like Quake, sure you want to use the mouse and the keyboard at the same time, but you're not really typing. Also, you can remap the keys so it's really not an issue of moving your hand from the keyboard to the mouse and back ('sides, you'd get fragged to pieces). I can understand the desire to get rid of issues like having to (while typing) use the mouse to activate a window or something, but why not replace the mouse instead of the keyboard?

Got any more info (links) where I can read about your claims? The second comment, specifically.
