Then perhaps you should learn more about this case instead of just repeating what you've heard from the (oh so reliable) media. The McDonald's in question had been (legally) cited on several previous occasions due to the temperature of it's coffee. It did nothing however. With respect to the old woman burned by the coffee, the coffee wasn't spilled, it was in fact so hot, it dissolved the bottom of the cup, and that's how she was burned. She first sued for the cost of the dr's bills. But the judge levied the high judgement as a penalty for ingoring the previous citations. I get my information from lawyers/paralegals working on cases. Where do you get yours?
Why would it suck to go back to windows? I didn't leave it just to be cool and go with the newest trend. I left it because it wasn't reliable or stable. If after going open-source it solved those issues (among many others), I'd go back. If Linux starts to get the software base that winblows has, then I'd probably stay with it (linux). But I get tired of having to search forever and fiddle with software just to get it to work. Granted I'm a better computer person afterward (i.e. smarter and a little more experienced), but I'm also a little lazy.:)
Unfortunately, I recall reading that the DVD decoding specs are very heavily guarded/licensed. This was agreed upon to prevent pirating of digital movies. Whatever. So open source drivers are pretty much out. Reverse engineer it? I'm sure you'll be hearing from lawyers from each company in the DVD consortium shortly after it's released.
