I meant that it's odd that he's looking at the poultry industry compared to his other sources of materials, such as soy and flax. And no, I'm not saying we should be making chips out of soy, I just don't know that converting the feathers into computer chips would be as environmentally efficient as some other forms of waste disposal.
The 8 billion chickens killed each year in the USA alone present major environmental problems. While animal by-products can already be found in many unexpected places (film, rubber, etc), I find it odd that a scientist who has such a focus on finding environmentally sound solutions is looking at the poultry industry as a source of raw materials...
I can't see large companies adopting an internet-scale model due to privacy concerns, but on an Intranet level, some of the ideas could be interesting. File storage spread across the enterprise might be an interesting way of dealing with backups and disk failure issues, for example.
"They could lay off 5,000 people, OR quit shelling out that much in MS licenses and pay salaries!"
Yes, they COULD do one or the other, but the most likely option would be to do both. Q: How much money does a corporation need? A: All of it. This isn't really a corporation bash, it's just the way things work, unfortunately. I guess this is kinda why we don't have Jetsons style robots doing all the work - people are cheaper than really expensive technology. Sigh... I'm actually having an average day.

...is to can make a window larger than your desktop, 100% transparent, and always on top.

I think that's the first article I've ever seen with the words 'Napster' and 'country music' in it. Way to pick your battles, recording folks...
