  1. That's really too bad on Hercules Closes Its Doors · · Score: 1
I've had a few Hercules brand cards (starting with my first monochrome card) and really enjoyed them. A few years back, I got a ET6000 based card from them and enjoyed it quite a bit. I was actually holding out to replace my TNT for the Hercules TNT2. Too bad.

Anyone live near Hercules HQ in Fremont and wanna pick a TNT2 for me? =)

  2. NOT Bogus on Glaze3D: Yet Another 3D Chipset · · Score: 1
Some people might like to research this further before claiming bogus and vaporware.

The Bitboys site has been around for quite some time. The Glaze3D has been in development for a few years as well. But until now it hadn't been announced that they had the chip manufactured, this appears to be true now, which follows their development roadmap.

They already manufactured a chipset a few years ago in the days of the Voodoo 1 era. Anyone remember the Pyramid3D by Tritech? This was them.

So before crying FAKE! learn the facts.

O, and they come from the DemoScene (Future Crew anyone?) so I imagine they know what they're doing.

  3. This is pathetic Old News! on X11AMP changes name to XMMS and gets sponsored · · Score: 1
Take a look at this other press release from 4Front. Looks familiar? The OSS Application Group announced it was swallowing up X11Amp over a YEAR ago, and was renaming it to "OSSPlayer". Why release the same "news" under another name?

Sounds like someone's trying to create news where there's none. BTW, I never saw a linux version of OSSPlayer, I seem to remember however, a BSD version of it, which was really just a port of X11Amp back when the source wasn't available.

By renaming the program to Xmmsmsmsms and dropping the "OSSPlayer" they tried to choke any chances of starting a Sound API war! Too bad it didn't work.

IMHO, the Linux sound API sucks whichever one you use try to playback 6 channels at a time in a CS4232(6,8) chip, why you can't? whoah!.

ALSA has a rather small portion of new code compared to its former existence as the Linux Ultrasound Project. While both of these projects support a wide range of codecs, there's very little Synth support though ALSA has better synth support (great legacy GF(GFA) 1 synth support). They both fail miserably in supporting newer synth chips like the DREAM synths (SAM9407 for one).

The only sound API that will succeed is the one that can provide a wider range of codec, synth and midi support on a wide range of soundboard. And that will require manufacturer support.

  4. It's a phase. And we emerge on top. on Voices From The Hellmouth · · Score: 1

I'm 25. When I think about colorado, sometimes I think to myself how close I came to being just like them. To simply give up, snap and go for broke. I stuck to a really small group and stick together we did for over 5 years. Fortunately, it so happened that the group I was in wouldn't take shit from the jocks or other "in" group. In fact, we mocked them at every opportunity. I remember thinking how they were the biggest losers in the world but they just didn't know it yet! Well time passed. Graduation came... Now, almost ten years later, I know I have the last laugh. I'm working in the IT industry and I love my job, have good money and am about to get the car that I've wanted for a few years now because I can afford it (nothing beats a WRX!). This past (sp?) christmas season, I went back home to my parents. On the night after xmas day, I went out to a pub downtown I used to hang at with my friends. I was there again, with the same friends, who all made it and have good careers. Well it so happened we came across most of the "jocks", yep... those who were hailed as most likely to are now down and out, trying to get by at working menial jobs in that same old town. I and them both know their "days" are behind them. And I know I have the last laugh. So my best advice to you is this: Don't give up. There's so much more satisfaction in knowing you came out on top and feeling that for the rest of your life. Much better than killing yourself and others to prove what you know to be the truth. Geek Power!
