I have been contracting in 4 different countries for 6 years or more. My average contract length is about 9 months, my rate ranges from $80 to $180ph. I have rarely been without work- if one economy is slow, another may not be- move!
I sometimes work through agencies and get referrals from many sources (UK/Europe=jobserve,US=monster, etc), but the bigest rates are through referrals and personal contacts met along the way.
Really enjoying contracting is a lifestyle issue. You either love or hate it IMO. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me and my family....and I am sooo glad I did not fall into the permanent employment trap (small salary + large options) that was so attractive during the dotcom boom.
