I save all my AOL and other "recyclable" CD's on a big dowel. It makes for interesting "art" when light shines through it.
My long term goal is to make a "disc-gun" like the kind you had as a kid that would fling the disc out. Given that the metal content of the disc itself is just sprayed on aluminum in most cases there isn't much for creating something magnetic -- directly. However you might be able to get something to superconduct in order to fling it like a rail gun;)
Otherwise, some combination of air-cushion (like and air-hockey table concept) could work -- start by spinning the CD up and then kick it out!
the whole apparatus could be mounted on the back of a pickup truck for "urban-assault" -- i think i'm seeing a weapon for Unreal or Quake!
Those insiduous little 1 pixel by 1 pixel GIF's are more pervasuive than you might realize. Turning off cookies won't help you either -- the clever little laddies at the ad-tracking co's are using "non-caching" 1x1 pixels GIF's to track your return visits to a site
So you either turn off your cache (which you can't completely do in Exploder with its 1M minimum, but can thankfully in Netscrape) -- or you disable images....
Cha! Like ANYONE other than WAP users actually do that...
I guess what we could do is build a cookie-proxy system that would allow you to use cookies for the session -- but toast them automagically after logout.
Cookies are a fact of the net -- I simply cannot access my online bank account without them enabled -- sure i could switch banks because of this -- but i think in this case I would WANT the bank to have tracked access to my account.
The Government tracking my PR0N consumption is another matter all together;)
I did a fair amount of this on old x86 DOS applications in the early nineties. I found the most useful tool to be "sourcer" which would convert the.exe back into a.ASM file which 8 times out of 10 could be run through MASM (do they still even ship masm?) into a working.exe.
One of the areas that I found myself spending the most time was data analysis -- determining what data was what type (long, int, char, et al).
Of course this all stemmed from poking around in Apple// games to figure out how to give yourself extra "lives";)
My Recommend: Build a Java decompiler. Looking at the virtual machine and the known world of how it deals with objects I think you'd have a ready project (open source?) that would not only be entertaining, but something you could (should?) write in java itself !
Give me a break. Our accurately reporting reality (ie, the true identity of the company) as disclosed by them in press release form does NOTHING to the financial stability of a company that does not honor its relationship channels.
We've been a long time Winstar client and Winstar used us to get into one of their "lit buildings" and then failed to honor their agreement with us for both "paying for the lead 'bounty'" as well as connectivity in that building. So much for customer loyalty.
The only sad thing is that the some good people got let go and the the bad ones CMA'd their way into a little more employment.
You ought to be impressed that they didn't go.com completely.
It kind of amuses me that most people here don't seem to get their news from any other source...

*** Winstar cuts 2,000 workers
NEW YORK (AP) - Winstar Communications Inc. announced the immediate
layoffs of 2,000 employees, or 44% of its total work force, just
hours after potential suitor Qwest Communications said it has no
plans to acquire or invest in Winstar. Winstar also said it was
halting expansion of its domestic and international network for the
rest of this year, to focus on building business within its existing
broadband infrastructure. That existing network consists of 5,400
buildings with a market of about 150,000 businesses. But Winstar
said its announced cuts were "absolutely not" the result of Qwest's
statement. "The release we put out today had nothing to do with
their (Qwest's) announcement this morning," Winstar spokesman Kevin
Cavanaugh said. Cavanaugh would not comment on whether Winstar has
been in talks with Qwest, saying to do so would be speculative.

In the early days, Covad would partner with ANY ISP, and then they started setting unattainable minimum circuit counts, forcing contract rollups to the point where they were only working with "BIG" companies
And with that they put their revenue risk into a few baskets instead of spreading it out.
Covad deserves what its getting. They picked the wrong strategy and now they are paying the price.
The notion that it was lack of capital on the investors side is just flat out wrong. That gear was purchased on Lease dollars and would have paid for itself if they could have collected.
Compare this with QWEST/USWEST who made it open to any ISP who bought and paid for a minimum DS1 circuit. No minimum number of circuits, just pay your bills and you can play.
In town, our largest ISP (Onvoy) cried "no money in DSL" when in fact they lost their Covad contract because they couldn't reach the minimum 10,000 circuits.
What a joke.
Goodbye Covad! I hope to buy out your CO's in Minneapolis soon
seems like everyone is chasing the "embedded market" and consumers just aren't consuming
GeoWorks has been at the small-footprint GUI just about as long as anyone -- specifically cell-phones et al
insert our old, unsuccessful product X on small product Y and get another round of financing....
No way. We get better support from FatBrain and BN than we ever did from Amazon.
They stood on the shoulders of giants and attempted to take the credit.

Yeah this little fiasco cost them my purchase of a t20 this time around...now they'll have to wait another year or so until i replace my current, happily compatible laptop.
That almost ALWAYS gets their attention. Basically someone has to sign for the receipt.
You can even address it to the CEO.
Usually the only people that use Certified mail are lawfirms that are about to sue;)

Have one setting fires and others putting them out!
"The" killer app ;)
but you can't have the source
Q1: Is the source code of Jad available?
A1: Currently I have no plans to release the Jad source code for any purposes including porting to other computer platforms.
