  1. What about the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado on Highest Bridge in the World Nearing Completion · · Score: 1

This URL indicates that the Royal Gorge bridge,
outside Canon City, Colorado, USA is
    higher than the one mentioned

  3. How is the location protocol different from slp ? on Next Generation of Gnutella · · Score: 1
The first thing that crossed my mind when I read
about this, is - in the context of the location
    protocol -,

'How is this different than the proposed
    IETF Service Location Protocol ?'

    http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/svrloc-charter .html

Even if it is different (I did not see any mention
on the gPulp site of an intent to make the
location protocol compliant with 'SLP'), I fail
to see why the need to invent another protocol
that I believe fulfills the same need of the
    existing one.

  4. Slashdot/Usenet (Re:Put the posts where they ...) on Microsoft Asks Slashdot To Remove Readers' Posts · · Score: 1

I actually like the idea (of posting to Usenet).

How about if slashdot postings are mux-ed to
    a usenet newsgroup (comp.tech.slashdot /
    alt.slashdot / ... ) ?

It would give instantly more visibility and
    distribution.

Optionally, how about a slashdot enhancement
that allows the posting (or the thread) to be
routed to Usenet as well ? (a check button on
    the 'Post Comment' dialog).

  6. Royalty-Free source hand-in-hand with withdrawal on Sun Withdraws Java from Standards Process · · Score: 2
What many seem not to have noticed is that the withdrawal from the ECMA standardization effort is accompanied with the royalty-free release of the Java 2 standard edition.

In my view (and I am not speaking for my employer) this should assuage the developer's fears of not having the standards body oversee the process.

  7. A very good idea to route back the efforts, indeed on LinuxPPC Challenge: Crack the Box and Keep it! · · Score: 3

    Kudos to the PPC guys.

No better way to detract from the interest that
Microsoft may have generated than to divert back the efforts of the linux community to a more
worthy cause - improving the security of our own systems.

    Let's eat our own (dog)food.

I wonder whether steganography (hiding the messages inside of other data) would be in violation of the proposed limitations.

  9. Re:Sun Microsystems: A friend, but not an ally? on Scott McNealy's thoughts on Linux · · Score: 2

If not a friend, how would one qualify being a member of Linux International - certainly before SGI or HP.

What about the help given to do the JDK 1.2 port to Linux ?

What about the hardware lent to the linux sparc port ?

The reason why HP (don't know about SGI) offer Linux courses is because they want to sell their Intel boxes, certainly not for their PA-RISC, MIPS processors. In that context, Sun sells no Intel-based hardware. That is my explanation why linux instruction is not offered by Sun.

My conclusion: yes a friend and an ally.
