An american, political conservative, is one who resists change to the constitution. The constitution provides for free speech. Any censorship, by definition, would be a liberal movement. So why do republicans often go for this? Because many are Religous conservative, that is to say they are conservative towards the bible and not the constitution. It was Goldwater who said "Most people dont know what a conservative is", while also saying the christian right is the worst thing that could happen to the party. He realised religous conservatives are oxymorons, as the bible is more for social rights then indivudal rights, which the constitution provides.
So stop assuming conservative republicans want to take your rights away. We are the only ones wanting to keep them. Liberals, ones who believe you should ratify the constitution every day, are the ones who would want to change this. And yes, i consider aschcroft a liberal based on webster's definition.
