I was one of my many students that ran all of of servers (I can admit that I was one of the more trusted ones) and such only a couple years back. Since then, administration has changed, and this doesn't happen, but it was especially efficient because they administration didn't make choices on what to buy, instead you had a pretty large collaboration on exactly what to invest in.
All in all, since we're paying for it, shouldn't we decide? Makes sense to me.
The problem, although, is honesty, and I can vouch for that with the MP3 server that ran late nights in there...I also know other people who work in a similar situation and I'm pretty sure they do the same. This seems to be the only real qualm in my mind if I was in a position of administration.
I'm on the MaxLinux network and recently noticed that Stormix stopped running ads with them -- it should have been pretty obvious to me.
Also, I was contacted by the parent company of Stormix, a company that does web hosting and domain registration -- so I wasn't aware that Stormix was its own entity.
