  1. Re:Filtering should happen on FCC Seeks Comment on Internet Filtering Rules · · Score: 1

This will probably be the one and only time I wander through here, so don't bother flaming me.
News flash for ya, this isn't a "free country", you have no "constitutional rights" beyond which the local government chooses to let you have, and your local societal tendencies overrule any laws on the books. I keep hearing the cry of "unconstitutional", this word doesn't mean that you can be as much of a perverse jackass as you want. The constitution's intentions are clear and precise, it is not the letter of the law, but the intent which governs the people. The constitution never intended for you to have total freedom of speech or such, there are and have always been barriers on what passes for civilized and publicly acceptable content.
As for profanity blockers having laughable checking ability, many chat rooms have pretty impressive checkers that thwart even altered keystrokes or substituted characters, I've seen them in action myself. Most importantly, and aimed partially at the "less intelligent" of the p()rn seekers, the majority of web sites contain direct profanity as laid out by the FCC's "dirty words" list. I find it inconceivable that someone could argue that the (unaltered) words f_ck, sh_t, p_ssy, c_ck, f_sting, and such could be mistaken by any profanity blocker.
I'd hate to see a child seeking information on "knee injuries" instead be flashed with pornography, as was given as an example on one televised show recently about the subject. In addition to regulating content that children might stumble on, I think other content should be monitored in educational areas. I have read of several busts on pirated software being downloaded from servers set up on college connections. Likewise a large amount of online gaming is seen from these high speed educational cable connections. You're not allowed to talk in class, wear drug paraphelaia, and such, neither should you be able to download mp3's and play games! It's a center for education, not a party pad. Considering part of my taxes go toward the "government aid" that actually allows these underachievers to attend something higher than "Bubbas school of tire changing", I see no problem with limiting their so called "rights and freedoms".
You want freedom to do what you want, you pay for it yourself.
