  1. Moon Supremacy on President Bush To Call For Return To Moon? · · Score: 1

Well, if you want to convince the world that you really are the superior force, an all-American vantage point in the (short-range) heavens says supremacy like nothing else. Not even invasion.

Returning to the moon in whatever form and for whatever reason fits the neocon/PNAC goals very well.

But I too hope that some good will come out of it and not just a single-minded, politicised NASA.

  2. Cigarettes on RFID Tags on Mach3 Razorblades Snap Your Photo · · Score: 3, Interesting

You have to wonder why they don't just put them behind the counter, as with cigarettes.

Is it some kind of subtle lure? Do they fear the drop in sales resulting from the less control of POS presentation? How would that stack up against the losses from shoplifting?

  3. Re:Most stolen item in Britain on RFID Tags on Mach3 Razorblades Snap Your Photo · · Score: 1

Just like the big music and film companies, all the razor blade companies are in on the scam. They've very successully taken a bunch of laws designed to create a fair trade environment and used them to build a cartel that's not only perfectly legal, but is setting the precedent which the legislators are following.

    Urge to revolt, rising...

It's a double edged sword, you divide the codebase and you might divide the market. However, I think that the hundreds of versions of Linux have been really good in that they've created a fairly cutthroat Darwinian environment. We as users and admins can only benefit from the innovations coming from that. I really believe that evolution is the method most likely to create a platform to supercede all others.

But then maybe I liked Blondie 24 too much.

Bandwidth: The last great bottleneck of the 20th century. Hopefully we'll get it sorted someday, just before we invent power systems small enough to power giant mechs. But which one to get first..?

  7. Fonts for Windoze coding: Andale Mono on What Font Do You Use For Coding? · · Score: 1

Another mono-spaced font. It is a serif font, just, the serifs are pretty minor and that makes it much more readable at small point sizes :-) It's made by M$ themselves I think, but I get it from softseek (preview available).
