"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
I agree with the Supreme Court decision. This decision is not about the drugs on war, it's not about the police looking at my trash cans, it's about my right to be secure in my own house.
This decision is somewhat surprising considering that a few weeks ago they upheld the decision to jail a soccer-mom for not wearing a seat-belt.
Have you tried contacting some banks? I'm from Montreal and I once had to work with the Banque Nationale du Canada. Over there I noticed that they hire a lot of contracters.
Like someone else said, your best bet is to know someone already inside. It's so much easier that way.
Second best way is to look at recruitement companies.
Don't give up. You're a contracter, so you should know that it's part of the job to be unemployed between contracts. You probably got lucky for the last 7 years, finding a contract right away the last one.
Good luck!

There's a part I didn't quite understand in the interview. How does Emacs coredump itself at the loading of the program and how does that make it faster to load?
Accidents happen.. I don't really blame the guy who put more uranium than needed. (Assuming they don't hire morons to work in a nuclear factory!). Even so if they hired a moron, who's to blame, the moron or the moron who hired the moron?:)
Anyway, it's sad that a human error caused that accident. The japanese nuclear factory must be built very very solidely because of the earthquake zone, from an archetectural point of view. Ironic it "exploded" because of humans and not of nature.
I found this article very interesting, even if you're just a "Sunday" Perl programmer (like me):)
For those who have read _The design and evolution of C++_ by Stroustroupp (sp??) it is interesting to note that Perl and C++ share some design philosophies. Like "the user is always right" school of thought. Maybe that's why both of these languages are popular?
Anyway, you gotta admit larry Wall has a pretty big vocabulary:
...three chief virtues of a programmer: Laziness, Impatience and Hubris...
...Third, I look for projects that franchise the disenfranchised...
...explicitly designed to be postmodern...
...free-form syntax...
..I must have a conjunctive rather than a disjunctive brain...
and etc. etc... I sure would have got higher scores in school had I used words like that!:)
eBay bought Craigslist last year.
If you think the Bill of Rights enumerates *all* of your rights, you are sadly wrong.
Guess you haven't followed the news in Argentina huh?

What's an "odd day"? Why are 13-11-1999, 7-11-1999, etc not odd days?
For me, odd is a number x where ( x modulo 2 ) not equal 0.
And a digit is a number between 0 and 9.
So I don't get it...
Do you have any ideas about where you can use cryptography to start a new business?
