I recall several months ago (on the max-osx-devel list) that someone discovered a serious performance drain in the way OS X does window repaints. The example was if someone changed something in two corners of the screen; the whole window rectangle would have to be redrawn instead of just the bounding rectangles around the changes. There is even example code which showed this. This is obviously something that will needs to be addressed in the future releases.
As to stabilty, yes it's quite good. BUT, I have had times where the system becomes usuable (after a month of so of uptime). Once it was because the netinfod died. Of course, I couldn't login in as root and restart the daemon since I couldn't get authenticated. Reboot time!
There's nothing extraordinary about the Vizor besides the price, which is something 3Com should have fiddled around with a long time ago. I would've been more excited if they had released some good development software for the Palm, ever try to program the damn thing! I don't know, but I've lost faith in the Palm Platform, nothing has been done to keep it relevant, interesting, or innovative.
It's funny but not real. Simply plug in anything into the CGI query like: http://support.microsoft.com/isapi/support/pass.id c?Product=Rob%20Writes%20Some%20Damn%20M essy%20Perl%20code and it'll give you the same result.
I used to love the simplicity of the Palm platform (ie, either you get the professional or not). These days 3Com seems to be churning out new models with nothing new or exciting in them. Seems kinda like the Apple situation a couple years back. That's why I am sticking with my Pro. Let's do a little rundown on the evolution of the Palm.
Std 512K, barebones.
Pro TCP/IP, 1 MB
III Ohh new case(sarcastic), 2 Mb memory, new OS (new memory model)
Some other III models here, too forgettable to list...
IV Odd no four model...
V cool case, rechargable battery...that's about it.
VII interesting concept. wireless pda. But it looks ugly, and you pay by the KB for transmission.
Why couldn't they put the hold button and headphones on the same side?
At least MS is trying.
Check this out:
Put the mouse in the bottom left in 2k and you'll see it won't activate the start bar.
In XP/2k3, you see it'll jump the mouse pointer into the start button activating it.
Instead of proposing yet another certificate authority scheme (which is PITA to use), why not just charge for email.
A nickel an email will surely slow down spam. Maybe the money could go to some Internet Infrastructure fund or something.
