Anyone that has been developing in.NET KNOWS that longhorn's core was not developed in the.NET 2.0 framework. That has been well established for years now. Nonetheless, the next generation windows and office products will be built on manage code, but not longhorn.
"Well, truth be told, I've not seen one since moving to the US. Real design work is rarely done, and documentation is something added on at the end"
Don't really know where you work, but welcome to my world! I have been a software engineer for 5 years now, and we do ASPECS, BSPECS, SRS's, Pre-Design, and Designs Docs. We do some prototyping sometimes in between to make sure it can be done, but most companies do design before code.
Yes, you are dumb. The fact that you mention.NET environment and not having "enough control" pretty much shows your knowledge of the framework. The.NET framework is arguably the most powerful programming environment ever written. TIP: Go back to school.
Okay....this is joke right? Yeah...so the seek time would be great....but coming up in here in a few months, maybe less, is 350GB Hard Drives....for 300 bucks! I would like to see you even come close to that space with RAM. That would be hundreds of thousands of dollars for space! That is an absolute joke. The limit of HDD was suppose to be here a long time ago. With superimposing technology, the limit will be very far in the future. As of now...Maxtor and IBM can address 144 Petabytes of information on a disk thanks to the 48 bit addressing that is coming out here soon in the market. Now in terms of the physical complications with pushing bits and tracks together....Well...that is another story, but just wait and see.
