Just hope they don't name their first-born Gordito...

(Congrats to both of the happy couple, btw!)

Umm...anonymous loserboy, if I was one of the people wanting to take advantage of the system, would I be pointing out its flaws? From so many of the "we want cheap games" comments on the various threads coming off this story, it is apparent that some people just aren't thinking it through. The people who make the games need to make a decent living -- or they will leave and go on to somewhere/something else. The resellers are useful to the company as they then don't have to deal with all the annoying little details that arise when dealing with individual sales.

I would say we can all be pretty sure that noone is making tons of money on Linux games at the moment--publishers or resellers. I'd like to see Loki take in enough money to keep good people and get more games coming out, and as many people have observed--that is not the impression being given.

Working with non-profit LUGs to promote Linux to new users is not a bad goal--it is the execution of the idea and the potential aftermath of the discounts that make me feel this could be a bad thing. Is it really great to get super deals on a few games if it winds up hurting the company and any dealers so much that there are no more games to come?

    *love and hugs*

How on earth do you intend to enforce these strict qualifications? If someone decides to start an online LUG and take anyone who signs up as "members", are they then qualified? How much markup are they allowed in selling to their members? And how would you know? Is an online chat room considered a "meeting" and acceptable for sales? It sounds nice that you want to support non-profits in evangelizing to the converted by selling games to their own members, but aren't you really shooting yourselves and your resellers in the feet? I could see doing this with older stock you wanted to clear out, but for your new products (that you'd presumably want to be selling lots of at a decent profit to keep your company healthy), it seems short-sighted at best and suicidal at worse. If you are selling stuff that much lower than to your resellers, you can't be making that much on these sales...
