  1. Alvarion on Space Needle To Become WiMax Antenna · · Score: 1

I was in Seattle last week and visited the Space Needle on Wednesday (April 27). While there, I noticed four geeks hovering around a laptop. The laptop was connected to an antenna that was suctioned-cupped to the window and pointed at downtown Seattle. I asked what they were up to and though they were very cryptic, I was able to glean that they were testing a WiMax antenna.

    Their antenna said Alvarion. Tada!

I suppose I could have scooped the story a week ago, but I didn't want anyone getting fired over my nosiness.

    touche.

the fact remains that Samsung's own page still lists the board as "Under Development".

the other side of the coin is that systems using the UP1500 are not easy to find... and it appears impossible to simply purchase a motherboard, which is what i would want.

seriously, prove me wrong again... please. i'd love to get one of these.

  3. don't get excited... on Alpha-Based Samsung Linux Goodness · · Score: 2, Informative

    okay, let's review...

The Inquirer has a story posted March 31, 2001 about the UP1500. it says the product is "is intended to arrive in July". it is now November.

these mailing list posts (including some by yours truly), show that the Samsung page in question, has been around since at least April 2001 and so has a page which has listed the UP1500 as "Under Development" ever since.

now, i'm no expert, but i think it is fairly safe to call this vaporware. maybe the motherboard will come out at some point, but for right now, it's silly to treat it as news.

(i will refrain from making commentary about how certain news *cough* organizations should check their sources before posting stories. oops! i just did.)

The link to IAS.com in this story should be changed to go to IAM.com before you go DoSing^H^H^H^H^H^HSlashdotting an innocent third-party.

Would someone PLEASE do a little checking of facts before posting these stories? *sigh*

this probably isn't the most relevant post, but some may find it interesting...

when Deep Blue and Kasparov faced off some time back, IBM had some "guest essays" up on their site... my favorite was Arthur C. Clarke's essay/story piece. take a look.
