This is eerily similar to an argument I have to deal with on a constant basis. Being a designer, I have to deal with both lower resolutions, and weight in terms of load time when designing a layout, or even something simple like a graphic itself. Just the same as its necessary to code for 800x600 but not for 640x480, I think its certainly valid for games to cater to a 56k modem, but nothing slower. The proof lies in the statistics - the market is simply too small, and the amount of backing up (in terms of progress) they would have to do would essentially render it infeasible.
The only problem I can see coming up from this is a problem of ethics. A company performing a test to cognitively rationalize the efficiency and accountability sounds expensive, but if the job requires it, I don't see a problem with it. That said, if I were to be applying for a position, and they found I had a genetic predisposition to alcoholism, would that be a valid reason to not hire me? Or what if I showed positive for Parkinsons (a disease that doesn't strike for a number of years)?
How is this news? Any box running most any platform can do this. zeven the most plebian of WinTel boxes can do it with a cable-ready video cards and a program akin to Premiere. Why is it that existing technologies ported over to Linux always gets the geek populace to spurt in glorious, simultaneous orgasm? So you can stream and capture Real Sex 4456 from your dorm, big deal. It's not making you any better off, dork.
I work professionally as a designer, and often I've a supervisor has commented about how the rights of the Handicapped are soon going to be affecting the web. I'm not sure in what capacity - it's rather impossible to create a Braille website, no? I personally can't wait to see a site such as Slashdot be forced to switch to a 32pt font in order to appease the Government's guidelines for aging.
Thats just what America needs..more fodder to build an "extreme" sport around. As if we haven't already embarassed ourselves through politics, we have to further denigrate our prestige by creating a society which prides itself on how quickly one can break his ankle after receiving his new board..
