I think one flaw in your thinking, and an attitude to which I can't relate, is in your statement, "...why people have such a fascination with music..." Music is a very powerful force in many people's lives, it's not just a "fascination." My wife likes some music, but she can take or leave it. I, on the other hand, am PASSIONATE about music and am very aware of how it affects me.

Radio is fairly useless to me, because it panders to a certain mass-market. CDs are OK if I want to listen to a specific artist or type of music. But at work, I want to have a wide diversity of music available. Thus, over time, I've ripped a number of my CDs and put them on my workstation. I then set this large music list on "random" and I end up with quality music that keeps me entertained.

Yes the future will contain more "visual interactive formats," but music will always be around for those of us who love it.

They don't do this for hockey anymore, which some purists applaud, but I find a little disappointing. And that process was a lot easier than the embedding of images in real-time. A sensor was embedded in the puck, then a handful of "cameras" tracked the sensor around the rink, giving it a halo so people like my wife could keep track of where the puck went.

To return to the topic for a moment, one possibility comes to mind on Mtv. Currently they blur out any product logos in videos. If "Limp Bizkit" is wearing an Adidas shirt, we can't see the logo. What if Mtv decided to only superimpose logos for companies that pay for the advertising? As it is, I find it offensive that Mtv edits videos in this way, but there's a lot I find offensive about Mtv.

The above is probably a troll (hence AC), but there are a lot of ignorant people out there regarding free speech (Tipper Gore comes to mind) so here are my points:

    1. The porn and OK bombing references were bits of art on their site. Art often makes points that are more controversial than your average TV commercial.
    2. Crushing speech with which one does not agree is evil.
    3. Using the argument that they're "protecting the public" when in fact they just want to steal the etoy.com name is even more evil
I know their programmers are Linux nuts and are also good guys, which is why it bothers me that I have to tell friends and family not to shop at eToys. It's obviously their lawyers who are idiots.

I'm rambling now, but perhaps in tech companies, lawyers should be required to run lawsuits past the engineers first, to see how the online community will react.

I also haven't enjoyed the recent "true ping"/Lord of the Rings thing, but the strip from the other day had me rolling! "Yellow elf is gonna need food badly" - heelarious...
