Tough. If you don't want the porn mongers using your story, don't publish it. Speech is supposed to be free, you can't just say "I said it first!" and then throw yourself onto the ground and kick and scream and cry like a small child.

Your post makes me want to vomit. What about the Fair Use rights like critism and scholarly endeavor? What if you don't like those uses? I'm sure Plato and Aristotle would be pretty upset with some of the publishers of their works over the centuries. It's called Life. Deal.

I think a lot of people (myself included) are somewhat scared that Microsoft will be able to leverage .Net for further dominance of the desktop and server OS markets. That said, I think it's a good idea to do an open implementation.

First, who cares what libraries are standardized or not? As long as the open-source versions of the libraries run on all platforms, developers will have plenty of disincentive to use Microsoft-exclusive libs. Second, there's plenty of opportunity to do to Microsoft what they've done to others in the past. Embrace and extend. If the open versions are "better" or offer functionality that Microsoft doesn't, then Redmond is in trouble. Third, the Beast will move forward with .Net wether Mono happens or not. I fail to see why we shouldn't at least try to make it work on as many platforms as possible. The more we can standardize it, the less control MS has.

Passport does indeed seem like a disaster waiting to happen. Maybe this is why MS is working with Ximian. They know that implementing the hooks is distasteful; they want to insure that it's done.

Titles and stuff are usually done by the editor. I wouldn't be surprised it he had written it though. It's hard to have people call you great all the time and not end up believing it.

Hate to break it to ya, but your shiny new G4 doesn't burn DVDs encrypted with CSS. The "SuperDrive" can't write CSS key-blocks.

Actually, I've fully immersed my hand in liquid nitrogen several times. One of my chem profs loved to play around with the stuff and let us all try dipping our hands in it if we wanted to. It was really creapy, actually took a bit of nerving myself up to do it. The strange part is, you can't feel anything except what I would describe as a cool fog. The reason this works is that your hand is so much hotter than the liquid N2, it just bounces off your skin like a drop of spit on a hot griddle. What you absolutely don't want to do is get your clothes wet with the stuff. The wet material holds the liquid against your skin and you'll get burns in seconds.
