This makes me think of Neal Stephensons essay "In the beginning..."; Continually glomming features onto an OS in order to prolong its salability is not going to work long term, not in the face of consistantly good cost-of-media OS's (take your pick.)
I also wonder if these incredible comments by Allchin aren't going to galvanize a large cohort of fence-sitters and uninitiated- in favor of Open Source.
