  1. Re:Futurama not cancelled? on Slashback: Futurama, Shattering, Footage · · Score: 2, Informative

According to that website, Futurama is still on at 7PM on Fox on Sundays in Fall 2003.

It also says Family Guy is not renewed if you click on FAQ #3 on http://www.fox.com/community/askfox/

I always thought the best thing about taking notes was the actual writing down of the information. I'm not really trying to be funny, but I almost never even opened my notebook to study, I already knew it because I remember writing it down. I probably couldn't have studied it anyway, I can't even read my own writing half the time.

  3. Re:A little too early on LindowsOS Softens Microsoft-Compatibility Claim · · Score: 1

I actually bought a PC from Walmart specifically to run Linux on. I would've loved it if they would have sold ones with it preinstalled. I guess I have to explain:

A couple years ago, when I was still in college, my professor suggested that we install Linux on our computers at home. Since I was using an old computer with a tiny hard drive, and still needed Windows for some other classes, a new computer was about the only option. Since it was the beginning of the school year, everywhere but Walmart was sold out. In that town, everywhere was only a couple of other stores. It wasn't the best computer to run Linux on(WinModem, sound card with no Linux driver), but was good enough for my needs. It was a lot cheaper than the ones they didn't have in stock in the other stores also.

  4. shortcuts? on LindowsOS Softens Microsoft-Compatibility Claim · · Score: 1

Ever heard of shortcuts? Although they are not quite the same as symbolic links, they are in some ways. Why can't you just put the mp3s in your shared folder and put shortcuts to them in your MP3 folder. WinAmp at least recognizes them as if they were mp3s, don't know about other MP3 players. I don't share, so forgive me if this doesn't work.

I recently graduated also, with a BS in Computer Science. I'd say there is definately no shortage of programmers. I've yet to even get an interview, let alone a job. Almost all the want ads I find say I need at least 5 years experience.

  6. Stompbots on BYO Battlebot · · Score: 1

I like the show, but I wish they had the stompbots in a separate class. They're usually more interesting to watch than all the wedge shaped designs that are not much more than big radio controlled cars. Unfortunately, they don't usually win because they can't ever catch the fast cars.

  7. Banner ads vs. other ads on Banner Ads Could Soon Be Bigger · · Score: 1

I think one reason why banner ads don't work as well as ads in other types of media is that the are targeted so much that they blend in with the content. Some are targeted to relate to the website they are on and others to the user via cookies. TV ads rarely are advertising something similar to the TV show. For example, most ads that air during sporting events are not for athletic equipment, tickets, etc., they are for stuff like cars, beer, and soda. Most ads during news shows are not for newspapers and news magazines, they are for other things. So why are most ads on the internet for other websites? It seems like banners for fast food and soda would work just as well as billboards for them but you almost never see ads for anything other than websites and computer related things. I think the idea that the see an ad, go to a website and buy something happens relatively rarely, but see a banner ad, and when you get off the internet and go to a store, people might buy that brand they saw earlier, thus having the same effect as TV ads and radio ads.

  8. modems on The Modem Lives On · · Score: 1

There are a lot of people who live in rural areas or in small towns and just can't get any better than a 56k modem connection. While these games may promote higher speed connections, it doesn't help these people at all. Not everyone lives in a city, and people who live way out in the country may never have access to a high speed internet. It's not even just games, a lot of web pages these days are really only viewable with something better than a modem. I think I was kind of better off 2 years ago with a 28k modem than I am now with a 56k. There are some games that work better than others now for modem users, but I doubt I'll even be able to play any games a couple years from now if I don't move to a big city.
