AOL indeed suck big-time, but we knew this before. In the article, Winamp is mentioned. Is Winamp owned by AOL, or do they just have a tie-in with them? AOL are huge, a behemoth only eclipsed by M$ for the average user. Between these two companies, what choice do you really have? If all the available free downloads of what appear to be share/free ware tool, are owned by one or the other, can you really be in control of your own computer? I paid over $2000 for my machine. I want to be in control of it. I want to decide how I run what... not some control freak in Redmond or wherever. This really is a scary thought... like we never saw it coming...
I'm a student.
In the period between weekends, ie Tuesday lunchtime 'til Thursday afternoon, I normally spend about 30 hours at my computer.
Of this, about 5 hours are spent planning the next weekend on AIM, 10 are spent talking about how great the previous one was. Of the remaining 15, I spend about 2 reading the news, and 10 surfing for porn.
I figure that leaves me about 3 hours actually 'working', typing out grammatically incorrect papers and reading course notes.
The new game in my house is going to be 'switch off the screen, and guess what movie is playing by the flashing lights.
I am guessing that the opening scenes of 'Saving Private Ryan' will be the starter for ten, but 'Sleepless in Seattle' will be the difficult bonus round.
Except for the scene where she is driving at night singing about arses, of course.
Should be glad IBM are on the Linux band wagon. Imagine the graffiti if they were advertising BSD.
Peace, love, and a little satanic evil looking horny creature all over your sidewalks.
Everything is political. How can we talk about the situation in geekdom without referring to politics. What do you think that the Linux/M$ debate is? A game? What do you think Napster is about?
C'mon. If we discuss anything contingent, we are talking about politics. Pretty much every issue that we on/. get heated about has a political pressure group somewhere trying to change people's opinions, or the law. We cannot get away from the social aspects of the things we feel strongly about - it is why we feel strongly about them.
As for free speech not being a/. issue, what about the anti-scientologist post that CmdrTaco removed last month?

Is the ethernet wired popcorn maker, and a guy sitting next to me who mumbles fortune quotes all the way through the movie.
I think I'm moving to Maryland.
