Here are a few that weren't listed: (Mostly because they do not write in English)
Dostoyevski (I have no idea if that's spelled correctly) - his book Sin and Punishment (don't know if that is the correct translation)
Albert Camus - L'etranger (The Stranger)
And of course J. D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye
Besides that, I wholeheartedly add my support to these authors:
Frank Herbert, Terry Pratchett, Roger Zelazny, Dr Seuss, Orson Scott Card and and George Orwell.
The error is in the math process:
Start with the $30 paid to the hotel. The boss takes $25 of them, leaving $5 to distribute between the woman and the 3 guests.
The woman takes $2, leaving $3,and gives $1 to each one of the three guests, which adds up to the $3.
QED
This might prove to be flammable and unimportant, but for what it's worth, I was really bored with the Death Gate series, although I more than liked David Eddings' books.
Besides that, the Amber book series, by Roger Zelazny, is also very good, much better than everything i've ever read by Weis/Hickman...
