  4. Re:Repeat after me: RFID was NOT MEANT FOR SECURIT on RFID-enabled Vehicles: Pinch My Ride · · Score: 0

You sir are confused. Although the article mension RFID it does not mention the variation of the protocol used. In this instance the keys are not naive keys that can only send identifiers, but also have a small processor capable of encryption. *In Case* you are misinformed, the purpose of encryption is to allow an on looker to have complete access to a conversation and still have no idea of its real content. It works like this: 1. Car sends a randomly generated number. 2. Driver's key hears this and runs an algorithm (sequence of shifts, loops, and other transpositions) defined a an encryption key (K) and returns the result. 3. Since the key (K) was negotiated at the factory, only the ECU and the drivers physical key contain it, and thus they are the only 2 devices which know what the response should be.

Since the random number is different everytime, it is *almost* impossible to know what is going on by listening in to the conversation. At least it is as impossible as breaking RSA-256 encryption. Broadcasting has nothing to do with how secure it is.

You sir are incorrect. The government doing the will of the people will take the peoples money and fund the research. There are already tons of federal grants for medical research. Taiwan apprently has the money to manufacture the drugs, I'm sure there would continue the research and development if they had access to the trade secrets regarding research that has been in progress for years.

  7. Cache size on SCSI vs. IDE In The Real World · · Score: 1, Interesting

The hard disk cache size has very little effect in linux boxen since the kernel uses as much memory as possible to cache hard disk data. If it's not found in 100's of MB of ram then it probably isn't in the disks cache, and yes system is ram IS faster than hard disk cache. I would be more interested to know what reorginazational effects copying the 50,000 file directory to the other drive had.

  11. cross platform api's on Designing Computer Animation Software? · · Score: 0

Essentially there are two ways to make sure your ap is portable, either write yourself a graphics library that your program uses exclusively and then port it. Or just use api's that can be cross compiled anyways. If you use opengl than you can compile on anything, but it you want to find a way to use direxctx or opengl you are essentially just going to have piles of wrapper code to slow it down and twice the work. I would recommend using something like gtk for your interface as it has been ported to windows and has opengl widgets to make the whole thing quite easy. It is fast looks pretty and makes sense, at least to me.

since the battle has been one for unix.com, it is likely that you won't need much loyarage to beable to win the battle for unix.org and unix.net since there is pressident on the fact that unix.com does not violate that trademark, i wouldn't doubt if you could win this battle while representing yourself. I mean all you have to do it site the case unix.* vs. UNIX.
