Okay, so the original question seems to have been lost, in this rambling about SSDs being better. Lets get back to the original question.
Suppose the user doesn't care about all of the downsides to the RAM Disk method. Suppose those aren't downsides, as they've been accounted for. How do we go about creating a RAM disk, in Linux, and mounting it as a filesystem?
