Earthlink/Mindspring also did the 'our email address only' thing quite some time ago
This is incorrect. Neither Earthlink nor Mindspring mail servers require you to use your Earthlink/Mindspring address as a From: or Reply-to: address. I can't speak for legacy Mindspring, but Earthlink has never required this. ELNK does, however, require that you have a valid domain in the From: field, but that is a totally different thing. It doesn't matter what domain it is as long as it actually exists.
I currently live alone in an older (read: cheap) two bedroom house. The second bedroom is my computer room/office/NOC/data center/etc and it's fairly full at the moment with a mid-sized desk and a folding office table and four computers.
I'm considering moving into a nicer (read: more expensive) place in the near future and don't want to pay two to three times what I'm paying now for an extra bedroom. This is where a half-size rack would come in handy because then I can keep everything out of the way in the corner of my living room and use a KVM switch and single keyboard/monitor/mouse to run everything.

Still more amusement can be found on Gibson's security newsgroup where his most feverent groupies and sycophants display an astounding lack of clues. These are available via the web at http://grc.com/x/talk.exe?cmd=xover&group=grc.secu rity or through a standard NNTP interface at news.grc.com, newsgroup grc.security.

I already have DSL in SoCal but with all the problems going on with DSL in general I'd like to know of a good ISP to go with if something ever happens to mine. I haven't had any problems so far though (knock on wood).
Don't forget to de-munge my address:)

It is interesting to note that Earthlink is owned by Scientology.
False. Earthlink was founded by Sky Dayton, who happens to be a Scientologist. Earthlink is owned by it's shareholders and Mr. Dayton is no longer with the company.
There is an unofficial investigation underway into the rumour that Scientology maintains a separate set of email servers on Earthlink's network that mirror all email traffic sent to or from it's subscribers. The purpose of which is to scan for Scientology related (read: disparaging) messages.
False (not to mention stupid). Please state your references for this. Also note that Earthlink carries, unfiltered, the newsgroup alt.religion.scientology, which seems to exist for the sole purpose of critisizing Scientology.
The rumour is that the server farm is at an offsite location, which only Scientology has access to. The explanation given to the employees of Earthlink about this offsite facility is that it is an "offsite backup" location.
Again, cite your references please. Are you an employee? Do you know this for certain? No? Then where did you hear it?

First, about the popID in the HTTP header, I hate to tell you this, but I happen to know that my Earthlink IP address is "nicely" masked via my geographic POP location. Ex. cust1.citystate.etc.etc So, Earthlink in masking my IP numerics uses the city where I dialup from.
Earthlink does not do this. You're probably dialing a UUNET or PSI POP.

How about Netware? I once helped someone set up a Netscape Enterprise web server running on Netware 5, which was a first for me.
I've searched the web for Netware exploits (out of curiosity only) and never found one for a current version.
