i know i'm a bad speller but that just ridiculous.

  2. happened to me on Covad Faked DSL Trouble For Verizon? · · Score: 1

it's true installing dsl is a nightmare. my experience amounted to a pissing match between covad and verison. verison was a no show twice. they even had the techs try to pressure me into getting verision's dsl service. they said things would go smoother that way. covad DID do the ' oh the line isn't installed' bit, when it actually was. when it was all said and done i lost five days of work and it took 3 months.

it's a shame, the ones who really get burned in all this is the customer.

i hear cable install is a breese. too bad the terms and conditions usually suck.(dynamic ip's no servers allowed......)

bell's not the only game in town, you need to check deals from others such as covad. 1.5M/ 384K $74.95. this is a decent deal. with no usage policy. http://www.nni.com/dsl/dslservices.htm

  5. what exactly is the project? on German Free Software Group asks Gov't Say No to MS · · Score: 1

    the article wasn't too descriptive.

    a) is it a place to demo e-commerce stuff(lots of silly ads and propaganda)?

b)is it that the gov. is gonna help small business set-up and host their e-comerce sites?

if its option b then that's a cool idea.
either way it's too bad microsoft had to get their grubby hands in it. they just can't leave anything alone can they.

  6. it's not the format is the idea on "MP3 death watch" article on CNN.com · · Score: 1

people, like the author have missed the point.

it's not the file format that has made mp3 so popular it's the concepts behind it. sure mp3 will eventually give way to a better format but won't change is the underlying concept. the free exchange of info(in this case music) is what is so appealing. many of us get it, many artists get it but people like the author and RIAA have totally missed it.

it's our duty(and privlage) to never let that underlying concept fade away.

  7. who bought 98 the firt time? on The Cost of Bug Fixes · · Score: 1

think about it? i don't know a single person that went to a store and actually bought win98. the only installs of win98 that i have ever seen where preinstalls on a new system.

MS is probably trying to give win95 users a reason to shell out and "upgrade". thats why win98se will not only upgrade win98 but also older windows versions as well.

Don't forget MS doesn't have any new OS's coming out for a while. actually there isn't much of anything coming out for the consumer market from MS. they probably need to charge to make thier bottom line look good.

they may also be realizing to the os gravy train maybe coming to an end and therefor trying to squeeze as much out as possible.

any case i seriously doubt many people will run to upgrade. most home users i know are perfectly content with their win95 systems.

  8. the linux frat. on Clueless Users Are Bad For Debian · · Score: 2

i guess to be able to use linux you have to go thu some painfull initiation. thats just as silly running naked accross campus just to get into a fraternaty.

I enchurage people that are interested to try linux, but at the same time WARN them about it's steep learning curve, and give them good places to find info. the fact that people want to learn is a good thing. clueless people shouldn't be labled and people assumed that they suck and can't learn and therfor can't break themselves from their clueless caste. i see linux as the best learning platform out there. the main problem is the scattering of info. it takes more time just finding info than it does to read and learn. this is why new users resort to prematurly posting to mailing list. i think the linux doc. project is a great source but it's still young.

slamming RH because it install easy is silly as well. having multiple distro's, each geared toward different groups is great. this is accomlishing what M$ has been trying to do for years, the same OS with different flavors.

anyway its good to see that the general consencous is that the article is silly
