  1. Consider Operations Research on What is the Value of an MBA to a Techie? · · Score: 1

If you have a solid Technology background (i.e., a 4-year Engineering/Science BS), I would suggest you consider pursuing a degree in Operations Research (OR). OR is the "hard technology" side of Management. You would be expected to use quantitative techniques (analysis, modeling, simulation, etc.) to gain insight and solve problems in business, government, military, etc.
Some good sites to check out include:

  2. No, but the French DO! on Building a Plutonium Memorial · · Score: 2

France operates the Phenix fast breeder , as well as having the only commercial reprocessing facility. For more on the French program, from an "Official View", check out:

  3. Re:Dealing with spent fuel. on Fission in a Box · · Score: 1

The USA renounced reprocessing for non-proliferation reasons. The USA is actually alone among the Nuclear Powers in this. The French run a reprocessing facility for themselves and for other countries (UK, Germany, Japan), and Russia has offered to reprocess commercial waste for other countries.

In such a case, we may WELL want the Aliens to think we are carriers of a disease dangerous to them. It might just make them decide we're "not worth it".

  5. I don't know about that. on Don't Trust Code Signed by 'Microsoft Corporation' · · Score: 1
I don't know about that. For example:

    1. Oracle's Larry Ellison, who likes to imperiously "buzz" the poor citizens of San Jose in his Private Jet.

    2. AOL-Time Warner, which wants to control both the content and how you can give it "buzz" (see the recent Slashot thread on "IM").

    3. Not to mention IBM, which in its bad old days of the 70's and 80's could actually get Mainframe SysAdmins who did not "THINK" the IBM way fired and blackballed!

Microsoft is not all good. It's not all bad either. Microsoft is just another Corporation playing the rough "Corporate Game". They are only the most successful, currently.

  6. Re:MSSQL on Are Expensive RDBM Systems Worth The Money? · · Score: 1

Actually, MS-SQL 2000 has become the FASTEST database, at least for the TPC-C benchmark. For more, see the TPC site:

    http://www.tpc.org

MS-SQL 2000 holds the top-spot in overall results and in clustered results. It virtually "owns" the Price / Performance results, with the only overall non-SQL 2000 result being a MS SQL 7 configuration!
