Agreed. Although it is only a crude form of programming, I wrote "ladder logic" for PLC's in waste water treatment plants back in '95 or so. Nasty! Oh, and watch those methane detectors!
I spent the last year trying to find the right ebook reader for me;
My requirements: - cheap - mulitple formats: txt, pdf, doc, isilo, mobi, etc; - color screen bigger than most palms, smaller than laptop
My Solution: - used NEC MobilePro 780 off ebay running WinCE: about $99 from a reputable seller;
So far I am happy; Using serial instead of USB kinda sucks, but for the price, I am pleased. I am about to get a wireless card for it and connect it to my home network.
Worked out great for me but do you own homework first;-)
I used StarTeam at a former job and I must say, I'd be happier going to the dentist every day. I think that was before Borland owned it. My impression: overpriced and kludgy...
This reminds me of an earlier/. article where "prominent authors who posted glowing five-star reviews of their own work" on Amazon's site were accidently revealed.
A cheap alternative to iTunes/Archos type hardware solutions is to buy a CD Walkman that can read burned cd's of mp3's. it cost me about $40 for the walkman (I am assuming that your PC already has a CDRW).
The upside: Cheap, portable, non-proprietary
The downside: You may have to burn and carry several cd's.
I just chose my favorite 10% or so of my 30+ Gig collection and burned several cd's. One classical, several rock, etc.
I bought a laptop a year ago and on the whole I am pleased. One regret I have is that the speakers on the model I chose are terrible little tinny things that aren't worth using.
If I had to do it over again, I would have given more thought to what's important to me (for instance, playing mp3's on the laptop) before my purchase.
At one of my former jobs (a security company) whenever we would find a computer unlocked, we would send a "baggy pants" email to the entire office distro list. Something along the lines of "Hey, come check out my ultra-fly baggy pants today!" Everyone in the office knew right away that the person had left their pc unlocked and would get harassed for the rest of the day... Over time the emails sent grew pretty outragous:
- I am bringing in donuts to the office tomorrow, please email me your favorite kind (turn on read rcpt and delivery rcpt) - Looking for a roomate (lotsa possibilities here) - I am proud to anounce the birth of my son... (include an ugly baby pic, or a dog jpg)
and so on.
Over time, people rarely left their pc's unlocked because they didn't want the ridicule of the office. It was great fun, actually improved morale, and kept the pcs locked tight.

Nicely put
You are obviously a confused one... ;-)
IIRC, there is a wget in the Microsoft Services for Unix...

Oh my God! Now I've seen everything!
I agree; No frills, just a great phone and a way to sync my addressbook...
It's amazing how unethical we can become for $...

Now, if I could only do this with DVD's...
You gotta especially love the part about refreshing... That always helps during a good ole slash-dotting ;-)

At least I can still use headphones
Good point!
Until then, I'll stick to MySQLFront (slow link). It does a pretty good job for windoze users. I do hope the new GUI is an open-source tool.

Well, I certainly don't expect to see "any of this advanced stuff" any time soon from them either. ;-)
On their mailing list a month or so ago they were discussing targeting compatibility with 2000 instead. I don't remember the final decision.
All the more reason to help out with ReactOS development IMHO...
