What I find bizarre is WHY uxtheme.dll cares about MFC apps or how it even knows! I have tried creating windows that don't use the Afx: style class names, etc. but to no avail. It is so frustrating - and if even causes MSVC6 to leak like a sieve!
XP2 also ships with a buggy xptheme.dll that causes any MFC application that creates windows with a caption (such as MDI child windows for example) to leak 6 GDI handles (HRGNs) every time a window is created. This bug is causing me some serious problems with one of my MFC apps that uses lots of CWnd-derived windows.
To make matters worse, MS actually fixed this bug with SP1, but have gone and broken it again with SP2! After all that testing they did? Unbelievable.
And, of course, I have no idea how I can officially report this bug to MS, let alone get them to fix it. There is a KB article for the original XP problem at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319740.
There is a workaround - use Classic mode instead of Theme mode - fine for me, but try telling my users they cannot run in Fisher Price mode!
What a royal PITA. My users are screaming for a fix (as my app runs all day long, and as many users use Standby mode, it can stay loaded until the next reboot, leaking bloody handles at a frightening rate!).
Anyone here have any experience reporting problems like this and getting them actioned? I don't know where to start (I have posted the problem to the MFC group).
So I install Firebird 0.7 - but my themes are all gone. So I visit http://texturizer.net/firebird/themes/ and the selection is poor. I reinstall 0.6.1 and my themes reappear and http://texturizer.net/firebird/themes/ has all my faves...
I assume that something crucial about theming changed in 0.7 and I'll have to wait for the old themes to get ported? I actually use the Luna Blue theme (gasp!) which is far superior to the default Firebird theme.
Errr... you don't know what you're talking about do you? Oh look... you don't live in the UK. Surprise, surprise.
Let me tell you something. Illegal guns are not that hard to get hold of in, say, London, but there is still a massive stigma about illegal gun ownership. If a criminal goes out armed and is spotted, a massive amount of police firepower will soon descend on the scene and there is a good chance you will get shot. Does this put criminals off using guns? Yes, it does. Not all of them - Yardies are a big problem in London and they see toting an Uzi as some form of status symbol - but enough of think twice to keep gun crime lower than people would have you believe.
Most major towns have ARV (Armed Response Vehicles) on hand tooled up with an impressive array of firepower.
Oh, and BTW, your "trash killing sniper team" comments make you look like a moron.
Well said FyRE666. Being mugged for your phone is the number one street crime at the moment, so anything that will discourage the people that actually reprogram the phones will have an effect.
Will it have an end? Current thinking seems to think it will expand forever - instead of the "Big Crunch" that everyone was hoping for! Give it long enough and individual atoms will expand to become light-years wide.
Shame, as the "Big Cruch" idea nicely fits in with my belief of infinite universes in a never ending cycle of bang/crunch. I'll have to pin my hopes on there being an infinite number of parallel universes instead (I'm bored of this universe. Perhaps in the next I'll be as rich as a king).
hehe.

Comments? What has changed?

Excellent. You have just made my Friday morning.
Ahhh ... "heat death" - a favourite topic for Stephen Baxter (Space, Time, Deep Future, etc.).
