Actually, Linux had USB support first in the form of uusbd. Unfortunately, no one really liked that implmentation and we started from scratch. Regardless, we have a much more complete implementation than FreeBSD's last I checked.
One was written to support the ia64 Linux port. You can find it at http://eli.sourceforge.net. It is specific to ia64 right now, however an ia32 is planned. It is also a little rough around the edges, but this is being worked on. It is GPL'd (like I mentioned in the topic) for those of you who prefer the GPL.
Take a visit to the somewhat out of date Linux USB homepage: www.linux-usb.org
Both USB Host Controllers (UHCI and OHCI), Keyboards, Mice, Printers, some bulk devices (Hard Drive's, Floppies, etc) and some webcams have drivers off the top of my head.

Atleast they use a clone of the Porsche Tiptronic automatic transmission. Thankfully they offer most of them in Manual here in the US as well.
Just can't wait until the Multitronic makes it's way to US. Hopefully a real CVT for once.
Yes, USB modems are also supported. Forgot about that.
They aren't a serial to USB device, nor a WinModem, but they do understand AT commands. They show up as serial devices.
Printers, OTOH, are parallel to USB devices. But, I digress

With many more to come and it's all in 2.3!
