Open Nortons Control Panel - this might take a few minutes while it is broken but it will come up eventually. Under the Miscellaneous Section of Anti Virus, deselect the Enable Office Plug-in.
That will not fix any general slowness in Norton, but it will allow you to read your Word/Excel documents.
I can't agree more with the absolute horrible design of the Rational products.
Rose, ClearCase, Soda, etc. are the worst pieces of software I've ever had the misfortune to use (though I haven't used ClearCase in a while, maybe it got better?)
Rose is a product that the ignorant believe will solve all the problems of the poor bastards who work for them. In fact, it just does the opposite.
TogetherCC is excellent, but man, it is expensive. I've heard Poseidon is coming along and so far Visio for Enterprise Architects (.NET) seems to be more useful, though I have don't any roundtripping yet.

I can't believe you said that. I have used both
together and Rose. Rose is the biggest POS I have
ever worked with.
Together is a fantastic tool, but it is brutally
expensive.
