The reason you're not getting the thousands of $$$ you were hoping for is because the people who visit your site aren't coming back several times a week, like users of Salon or Slashdot. People are only coming to your site once or twice, they check out your fonts, download the ones they want, and then they don't come back. What's the term people use, "sticky"? Your site isn't sticky enough for people to use it regularly enough to warrant paying you money.
The only site which I've "donated" to under the Amazon Honor System is AM News Abuse (http://www.amnewsabuse.com). It's a news-of-the-weird type of site, and the guy who runs it gets up at 3AM, so that the daily content is up by something like 6AM. That kind of content I can see people supporting more often than not --
