Not how I read it. I read the text of the message being that the auction will only go as high as the $35 registration fee.

Any and all proceeds that we receive from the transfer of your domain name registration (up to the full registration fee) will be retained by Network Solutions and your domain name will be transferred to the successful bidder. By selecting this option, you hereby authorize us to act as your contact to perform all necessary actions relating to the auction and transfer of your domain name registration.

Luckily this has been thought out. There are a handful of companies (the two main ones are SALIX and Cisco (no link, can't remember the product name)) that offers boxes to the phone company that hook the IP network in with the existing PSTN to allow people with IP Phones to make calls to existing numbers (And the other way too).

Network convergence. One wire to your house that carries voice, data, and cable. I think this is the wave of the future.

As far as security, make sure they strongly encrypt everything, and make sure they have a strong privacy statement.

Strong encryption is only part of the solution. Even if all communications between your browser and their server is encrypted, if they store all your information in a world readable directory in plain text on the server, your information is not secure!
