  1. Re:I am a do do head on Gender in the Internet Age · · Score: 1

Nope, wrong Jonathan Clark. :) Still, no offense taken... it was an honest misunderstanding. I posted that in the thread format, so it might have seemed out of context in the "normal" view.

  2. Re:Why so few women in the industry on Gender in the Internet Age · · Score: 1

I find having somebody with your views an insult to my gender. I can see you must have a lot of luck with your social life. Sadly, I somehow doubt this competition will ever happen. If he never had the bravery to post his handle or his e-mail address, I sincerely doubt he would ever follow up on the thread. Depressing... a good game of "Who can write a 3D engine first?" would have been very entertaining, especially considering one of the contestants. :)

  3. Lately... on 3dfx Glide and DRI Open Sourced · · Score: 1

Lately it's really seeming like 3dfx is just trying to redeem itself. First the open release of their texture compression, then the announcement of a line of difficult-to-believe 3D accellerators, and now releasing part of the source code to GLIDE -- the same thing 3dfx was so retentive about before. Seems peculiar, to be entirely honest... still, as of right now, their only redeeming values are their Linux support and glimpse at the OpenSource ideals.

  4. Alrighty... on US House of Reps. Bans "Cybersquatting" · · Score: 1

I know two people who are victims of cybersquatting, and one of them is me.
First, Telefragged registers massassi.net, just to spite somebody who wants to move their site on to greener pastures.
And then, out from under my nose, somebody grabs solarwind.com. Now we have to use something obscure.
I think that banning this sort of behavior is a good thing. Well, at least to the people who aren't doing it.

This is probably a worst-case scenerio; at least with most cybersquatters you can buy your domain back.

  5. Inconclusive on Mashed Potatoes Directly Enhance Memory · · Score: 3

The full experiment was that they starved two groups of elderly people for 24 hours, and then gave one group mashed potatoes and barley, while only giving sugar water to the other group.
Naturally, I don't think this was a very conclusive analysis, because, obviously, you're going to think better when you've eaten-- and complex carbohydrates are always going to be more nutritious than a cup of sugar and some water.
On that same note, I believe the effects of food on thought was conducted years ago, on school children.

  6. Grrrrrrrrr... on DNA Code - IP or Public Domain? · · Score: 1

Okay, there are a couple of things I want to comment on here: First off, I think these companies are given far too much legal freedom. There should be tougher laws governing just how far is too far, and shut down any companies that tread too close to that fine line. Second, I can't believe this company has the gall to try to patent pieces of DNA. Some people I know argue that this is happening so that they can protect their research, so that somebody doesn't come along and call it their own, but unless I'm mistaken, this falls under the intellectual property rights. This is just yet another corperation trying to set up an international monopoly, but this time they aren't working toward owning the OS market, or even the water supplies, they're trying to own us! And I don't think anybody should stand for that. The day anybody owns a piece of me is the day I go postal. Last but not least, DNA is used in 6 billion humans, and untold trillions of animals, plants, insects, micro-organisms, and virii. Who really owns it? Definitely not some genetics company.
