Over the last ten years, I can recall literally dozens of battery "breakthroughs" that promised to revolutionize battery technology in 5-10 years. None of them panned out.
Given the amount of snakeoil in this field, an eight-million dollar pledge seems like extremely small potatoes and not terribly newsworthy.
