  1. 13-18 year old "dimwits" on The Nine Continents of the Internet · · Score: 1

Why bother classifying people by age? Maybe you make assumtions based upon age - I certainly don't. There are some near 50-year-olds (my father comes to mind) who have the "mental age" as you call it of a wild just-barely-driving teenager, and some "young people" who could probably whip both of our pants off combined and be more gracious about winning then we could either hope to be

  2. Exactly on Filtering Internet in Public Libraries · · Score: 1

That's why, at my school, I've set up several CGI scripts and link-lists for sites that fool the filters. They have the entire angelfire.com domain blocked, as well as several biology pages (I know - I'm a student worker for the Honors Biology teachers) that they'd like to view. There are so many sites now offering free CGI, they've given up trying to block much - because I immediately post a way around it.

The sad part is that they say that I'm being insolent for this kind of thing. All I want to do is do my research <b>WITHOUT</b> having to worry if I'll be able to get through to a site that I need.

  3. What a biased article :P on Negative Webmonkey Editorial on Andover/VA Merger · · Score: 1

This article was so obviously biased, I must wonder if they athuor is mad because he didn't get offered to take part in the VA IPO. Which reminds me - he herolds Redhat's IPO giveaway as such a benifit to the open-source community, but nary a mention of the VA IPO giveaway was mentioned.

I've yet to see VA make any overt Microsofty moves, nor do I expect to. It wouldn't make sense to be a bully in the OSS community - you'd be dropped like a 2 ton sack of hot potatoes!

  4. Snow Crash on Sci Fi Literature 101? · · Score: 1

This was a good book, but I have to rate it down some - very good storyline (10/10), but there are several places in the book where story elements are redefined to make room for the story. Also, some weird changes in point-of-view during writing (not 1st/1st, but 3rd limited/2nd/1st/3rd omniscent in the same paragraph). For an example, check out Hiro's leaving from The Black Sun - at first, it says he and Juanita quit, then changes it later to Da5id firing him). The storyline redefinies itself rapidly after the first couple/4 chapters - The opening wasn't very good, IMHO.

All-in-all, I give it 8 1/2 out of 10 - just wish continuity would have been paid a little more atte ntion to

  5. Good on Geeks In Space: Live from the New Studio · · Score: 1

Hey, good show guys! I like it.

2 things: 1, you need phone calls! Or at least letters. Maybe take some of the better/worst comments from last week (if any) and add them to the show the following week. Have GiS awards for those that get read :)

  6. Learning Perl on Interview: Tim O'Reilly Answers · · Score: 1

I still have the first edition of Learning Perl (got it from a friend. Been very useful, as Perl is my first language). Anyway, it's been around a while, and I see no evidence of binding cracking. I use this very heavily, and it has been thrown across rooms, thrown in a backpack that goes everywhere, and been loaned to several friends.

    Howdy,
Got a question. Why 10 minutes and 37 seconds? Both episodes have been exactly this long....
There must be some reason :)
