    Why do these laws even exist? It's exceedingly clear that even the most egregious misuses of our data get a slap on the wrist at most. At this point it would be cheaper for companies to just go Wild West with our data and pay the tiny fine (if any) after they're caught.

    I'm not recommending that it be banned because I don't like it. I'm recommending it be banned because it's using insane amounts of energy and offers almost no real advantages.

    I didn't misconceive a damn thing. Bitcoin uses more energy than Hong Kong, which has over 7 million people. Beyond that, the network is mostly fueled by coal-fired power plants in China so the carbon footprint is massive. Combine that with all the other silly cryptocurrencies and we've got a real problem.

    A quick Google search found many scientific articles about how crypto mining is contributing to climate change at alarming rates, so it looks the person who needs to "get it through your skull" is you.

    Sorry you're butthurt that your crappy investment in crypto isn't paying off, hypocrite.

    Um, no. I said they should ban all cryptocurrency mining and transactions...at least until the energy used by ALL of them is many orders of magnitude less than it is now. Reading comprehension > you.

    What I find funny is that, even though you claim to be pro-2nd Amendment, you're totally okay with somebody saying "They are too busy jerking each other off" about gun owners but you're all over me for defending those same people. Granted, I came on strong, but I've had a bad day and I'm really sick of all the stupid AC posts that ruin the comment boards around here.

    - I completely agree with you that gun nuts are the worst, along with SJW's, Antifa, alt-righters, etc.

    - I'm well versed in the contents of the Bill of Rights, it isn't very long, afterall. IMO the 1st and 4th are the most important, and the 2nd helps to uphold those two. If you've got a problem with the tenets of the Bill of Rights, then I've got a problem with you. But apparently in your mind that makes me a kook.

    You should hang out with Ol Olsoc. You'd make good buddies since you both like to make false assumptions about people you don't know.

  19. I'll probably get modded down for this, but anyone who drinks bottled water where there are other easy alternatives is a huge, lazy douchebag. Bottled water should be reserved only for times when finding an acceptable alternative is difficult...day at the beach, long bike ride, etc. And even then it's not difficult to put some filtered water in a canteen before you leave.

    Hell, there's really only one REAL reason I can think of to buy bottled water and that's to put in your SHTF supply cache if you have one. This is a problem that is very easily solved by not being so freaking lazy.

    Just because the smart speaker is the only device that advertises that it's listening to you, that doesn't mean it's the only device that is.

    Yes, but it's the only one whose MAIN PURPOSE IS TO SPY ON YOU. While unfortunate and annoying that all those other things you listed *might* be spying on you from time to time, they have a ton of other uses. And, in most cases, you can turn the "spy stuff" off. Whereas the only use for a smart speaker is to listen in on every single thing you do. If someone chooses to put these in their house they're welcome to do so, but I'll pass.
