I can second the recommendation of ORBacus, I've been using it in a big project for the past few months and stability is way up over the previous custom socket-based system it replaced. It might be a good idea to start with the 4.0 beta release, as it implements newer CORBA standards -- particularly the POA and Interoperable Naming Service.
